About Us

In 1994, the Frogtown Storytelling Guild (Toledo, OH), a nonprofit organization, was founded by individuals who were interested in preserving the art of storytelling in all its facets. The founding Frogtown Storytelling Guild members were Doug Bahnsen, Saretta Burke, Condessa Croninger, Karen Engdahl, Bridgid Fall, Maryann Griffith, Hollis Helmeci, Pam Hollenbeck, Antoine Kabwasa, Valerie Roshong, Odessa Rowan, Ken Solo, and Ann Wilson. Frogtown Storytelling Guild members, as well as being storytellers, come  from a variety of fields such as education, library science, speech-language pathology, medical worker, and hospice.

The Frogtown Storytelling Guild is a member of the National Storytelling Network (Kansas City, MO), the vision of which is to have all people value the power of storytelling and its ability to connect, inspire, and instill respect. As a member of the National Storytelling Network, each year in November, the Frogtown Storytelling Guild hosts a Tellabration! storytelling concert.

The first Frogtown Storytelling Guild-hosted Tellabration! was held at Common Space (Toledo, OH), and in the following years it was held at Sufficient Grounds coffee shop (Toledo,  OH). However, its popularity increased and the audience size quickly outgrew the coffee shop. Therefore, from 2003–2005, Tellabration! was held at a larger site, the Heatherdowns Country Club (Toledo, OH). Its popularity (and audience size) continued to grow, and in 2006, Frogtown Storytelling Guild began hosting its Tellabration! concert at its current site, the Maumee Indoor Theatre (601 Conant St., Maumee, OH).

In addition to telling at the local annual Tellabration! concert, individual Frogtown Storytelling Guild members tell stories in a variety of settings such as libraries, schools, nursing home, and churches. Each member specializes in one or more genre of stories (personal stories, fables, folktales, tall tales, etc.).
